1st Inning (Top)

Freshman catcher Becky Zill starts off the game for the Braves but is caught looking at a third strike by Raider pitcher Brittany Welch.  Ashley Totten pushes one to the third baseman Dayna Keene who promptly throws the runner out for out number two.  Heather Burnside caught looking also as Welch records her second strikeout - this time on three pitches.

1st Inning (Bottom)

Sophomore Erin Keene faces Braves pitcher Danielle Chase who is playing today with a fracture of her throwing arm - and draws a walk.  Freshman Dayna Keene stands in for the Raiders but pops up to the pitcher on an attempted bunt.  Kate Donovan hits one to shortstop Kelly Hammer who throws to second for the force out of the lead runner.  Brittany Welch slams a double down the left field line that plates Donovan from first and helps her own cause as the Raiders go up one zip.  Alissa Richardson goes in to run for Welch.  Jocelyn Dearborn now up and grounds back to Chase who makes the play at first to end the inning.

2nd Inning (Top)

Kelly Hammer flies to right fielder Allison Mayes for out number one.  Danielle Chase goes down looking for out number two.  Junior Natalie Orloff strikes out swinging to end the top of the second.

2nd Inning (Bottom)

Kas Ralston leads off for the Raiders and pops out in foul territory to first baseman Tiffany Rogala.  Caryn Zurn drives one to deep left center but it is tracked down by center fielder Kayla Troup for out number two.  Alison Mayes grounds one to shortstop who makes the throw to first but the throw is dropped to allow Mayes to reach on the error.  Chase strikes out Carissa Stonier for the third out.

3rd Inning (Top)

Kayla Troup leads off for the Braves against Welch who records yet another strikeout to continue her pitching dominance early in the game.  Steph Anderson now at the plate but again Welch blows one by for strike three and out number two.  Sarah Ragen grounds to second base but the ball is booted and Ragen reaches first on the error.  Designated runner Tiffany Rogala enters for Ragen.  Becky Zill stands in against the masterful Welch and pounds one to deep right field where it is gathered in by Alison Mayes to end the top of the inning.  Welch now has six strikeouts in three innings.

3rd Inning (Bottom)

The top of the Brave order Erin Keene stands in against Chase - bloop to shallow right field for a single.  Dayna Keene now up - nice save in the dirt by catcher Becky Zill to prevent the runner from advancing - sacrifice bunt down the first base line.  Kate Donovan hits to shortstop Kelly Hammer who catches the lead runner off second base for out number two.  Brittany Welch now at the dish - long drive way out of the park but foul down the left field side - hit back to the pitcher who cannot make the throw to first - Welch on with a single.  Jocelyn Dearborn hits back to Chase who throws her out at first but with obvious pain on the overhand throw with the injured forearm.

4th Inning (Top)

Ashley Totten hits right back to Welch who makes the play to first.  Heather Burnside stands in - battles Welch by fouling four pitches - finally works the base on balls to give the Braves a runner.  Kelce Coon in to run for Burnside.  Clean-up hitter Kelly Hammer now to face Welch - another strikeout for Welch and a snap throw to first by catcher Kate Donovan by the runner just makes it back.  Danielle Chase grounds to first baseman Erin Keene who makes the unassisted put out to end the Brave's inning.

4th Inning (Bottom)

New pitcher freshman Lindsay Phillips comes in for the Braves as Danielle Chase's fractured  arm may have prematurely ended her day.  Kas Ralston flies out to left.  Caryn Zurn caught looking for out number two.  Alison Mayes at the plate - swinging third strike from Phillips who quickly gets through her first inning by retiring the Raiders one two three.

5th Inning (Top)

Natalie Orloff in to face the formidable Welch who so far has allowed only two Brave runners and nobody past first base - works a walk to give Iroquois their third runner of the game.  Kayla Troup - sacrifice bunt down the third base line to give the Braves their first runner to get beyond first base.  Steph Anderson now to try against Welch but strikes out for the second out.  Sarah Ragen now up - Welch masterfully mixes the fastball and changeups to strike out Ragan and continue her no-hitter.

5th Inning (Bottom)

Carissa Stonier to face freshman pitcher Phillips - line drive to first baseman Tiffany Rogala who snags it for out number one.  Erin Keene stands in and drills a single to left field - tries to stretch it into a double but is tagged out at second.  Dayna Keene hits back to the pitcher who makes the play for another one two three inning.

 

Score after 5 innings: Braves 0, Raiders 1

6th Inning (Top)

Catcher Becky Zill to lead off for the Braves - ground ball to Erin Keene at first who throws to the covering second baseman Kas Ralston for out number one.  Ashley Totten flies to right for out number two.  Heather Burnside strikes out swinging at a nice curveball from Welch to end the top of the 6th.

6th Inning (Bottom)

The Raider's Kate Donovan to face Phillips - Kate flies out to deep leftfield.  The Braves Ashley Totten making the catch on the warning track.  Briitany Welch walks on four pitches.  Jocelyn Dearborn goes down swinging.  Kas Ralston singles to shallow leftfield and with aggressive baserunning by the Raiders, Brittany Welch takes third base and Kas Ralston goes into second on the throw to third.  Caryn Zurn hits a soft linedrive to first baseman, Tiffany Rogala, to end the inning and the threat.

 

 

Score after 6 innings:  Braves 0, Raiders 1

7th Inning (Top) Kelly Hammer hits a ground ball to the second baseman, Kas Ralston, who throws to first for the first out.  Pinch-hitter Sarah Johnson bunts a ball but striaght back to the pitcher, Brittany Welch, who firs to first for the second out.  Natalie Orloff strikes out on three pitches to end the game and Blue Ridge wins a state title, 1-0.  The Raiders scored in the first inning on a double by Brittany Welch.  Brittany then let her arm carry the team throwing a no-hitter.  The Braves managed to get a baserunner to second in the fifth with 1 out, however the next two batters struckout.  That was the Braves only threat of the game.  Brittany Welch was simply dominate on the mound.
